Personality
According to Dee’s mother, she’s a disappointment. According to her father, she’s one of the worst people in the world. And according to her friends, she’s just a goddamn bitch. Unfortunately for Sweet Dee and for everyone she comes into contact with, they’re all a hundred percent correct. Dee is human detritus; her personality is a noxious combination of vindictiveness, selfishness and lousy self-esteem. Her morality is nonexistent. She’s petty, callous, violent and vain, and she travels through the world like a human wrecking ball, ruining people’s days and occasionally their lives.
Dee didn’t get to be this way in a vacuum. Her malevolence is the product of cripplingly low self-esteem. Since childhood, Dee has been the target for verbal abuse from her entire family and her high school classmates; in adulthood, her only circle of friends and family makes a sport of singling her out for ridicule, humiliation, poisoning, physical torture and scapegoating. She has never been supported by anyone and anticipates attack before it happens; she’s cruel as a defense mechanism, and she looks out for herself first.
She doesn’t, however, see herself as the vicious, damaged human cyclone she is. Dee’s under the belief that she’s a good person, or at least a decent enough person. She has a laundry list of crimes under her belt and has left a trail of horrified and brutalized people behind her, but she doesn’t take responsibility for any of them. As with the rest of the gang, even the most dramatic life events fail to register with her. She has no longterm memory for the things she’s done, nor for the beefs she’s stoked. For her, something that happened two days ago is old news, and last week? Get over it already, boner.
In keeping with her tendency to just blaze past social courtesies, Dee’s crude, racist and foulmouthed. She’s gone on record saying that her favorite word is “cocksucker”. She believes herself a comedienne and an actress, and yet the majority of her impressions and jokes are unfunny ethnic stereotypes with brown face or fake buck teeth. She’s shrieky and loud and prone to violence; she once did a stint in the psych ward for setting her roommate on fire. She habitually steals and uses sex as a power move. She tears down the success of others around her out of spite. She flagrantly lies and makes up stories to seem more interesting than she is.
She’s also an addict. She’s physically dependent on alcohol and has a tendency to abuse any substance that gets close enough to her. Throughout the canon she’s been addicted to crack and has abused cocaine, gasoline, marijuana, ecstasy, glue and steroids. She has a tendency to try and emotionally escape by crawling into a bottle or chasing the nearest high with no regard for consequences; her ability to conceive of the past and envision the future is extremely truncated. She’s the absolute epitome of living in the moment in all the worst ways.
Her shortsightedness doesn’t mean she can’t predict outcomes, however; Dee’s extremely manipulative and relatively good at manufacturing social scenarios. Unfortunately, this skill is largely used for vituperative ends. She’ll play others to indulge in petty rivalries or fleeting grudges or just to feed her own ego. As someone who’s so often being “put in her place”, Dee will take direct action to put others beneath her. These machinations make up a solid chunk of the trouble Dee gets into, with the others being an unsurprising array of get-rich quick schemes and scrambling self-preservation.
Ultimately, Dee’s a broken person going around breaking other people, a mean-spirited, manipulative, defensive product of emotional abuse who manages to hold onto the slightest glimmer of hope. Dee knows, deep down, that she’ll never be an actress, that she’s never find true love, that she’ll never rise above the morass of her depraved life - and yet a little part of her still believes and keeps trying. This innate optimism is her best and possibly only virtue. The rest of her is a plague that is best avoided by anyone with the option.
Special Abilities
None, but Sweet Dee is incredibly strong for a normal woman. She’s capable of kicking a football across a field without practice and of breaking a buzzer off a gameshow rig and sending it flying, which supposedly never happens.
